Moving Forward with God’s Direction
Have you ever felt stuck between two choices, paralyzed by hesitation, and unsure which door to walk through? You’re not alone. In Genesis 19, Lot and his family found themselves in that very place — hesitating even as angels warned them to leave a city marked for destruction. Their story is more than ancient history; it’s a vivid picture of how indecision can rob us of God’s best for our lives.
We live in an age of endless options. Opportunities, relationships, jobs, lifestyles — each promising fulfillment. Yet, looking longer at the options isn’t the same as praying over them. Lot “took a long look” at the fertile plains of Jordan but didn’t take time to ask God what He saw (Genesis 13). His choice looked good but slowly pulled his family closer to danger and compromise.
The result? When God finally intervened to rescue them, Lot hesitated, his sons-in-law thought he was joking, and his wife couldn’t stop looking back. Indecision and attachment nearly cost them their lives.
But here’s the hope: God’s mercy is stronger than our hesitation. He doesn’t just call us out — He takes us by the hand and leads us to safety. Hesitation reveals the attachment. Whatever area you’re hesitating in may be the very area God wants to free you from.
Freedom doesn’t come from willpower or simply “stopping.” True freedom is when even the appetite for what held you is gone — when you fully surrender and let Jesus lead you forward. That’s when indecision breaks, clarity comes, and you step into God’s promises.
So ask yourself:
- Where am I still looking back instead of forward?
- What choices am I making based on what looks good instead of what God says?
- Who else can I bring with me to a place of deliverance instead of destruction?
God is not trying to take something from you; He’s trying to take you somewhere better. Don’t stay stuck at the edge of a burning city. Don’t let indecision cost you your future. Take His hand, trust His lead, and step forward.
Call to Action
This week, pause before your next big decision. Pray first. Ask God not just what looks good, but what He wants for you. Let Him burn away the old attachments so you can walk boldly into the new.
