There are moments in life when following Jesus feels exciting.
And then there are moments when following Him costs everything.
Most of us imagine faith as saying “yes” to God once. But the reality is that discipleship is often a lifetime of saying “yes” again and again—even when the next step is uncertain, painful, or completely different from the one we expected.
God Often Builds Through Ordinary Obedience
Some of the most meaningful ministry opportunities don’t begin on a stage. They begin around a dinner table, at a neighborhood park, or with a simple conversation.
God’s mission is rarely confined to church buildings. When His people intentionally love their community, barriers begin to fall. Families open their hearts. Relationships grow. Doors that once seemed impossible begin to open.
It wasn’t flashy strategies that made the difference.
It was consistent faithfulness.
Month after month, year after year, serving people simply because they were loved by God.
Faithfulness Doesn’t Mean Life Becomes Easy
Incredible ministry and personal suffering can exist at the same time.
While lives are impacted and new opportunities open, unexpected health challenges forced everything to slow down. What looks like a season of momentum suddenly becomes months of recovery and waiting.
It’s easy to assume that if God is blessing our work, our lives should become easier.
But Scripture—and real life—tell a different story.
God’s presence isn’t measured by the absence of hardship. Often, He does His deepest work in us during the very seasons we would never have chosen.
Sometimes God Asks for Another “Yes”
Just when it seems that you had built something beautiful, God asks for another surrender.
Leaving behind people you loved, a growing ministry, and years of investment doesn’t make logical sense. Yet once again, the invitation is simple:
Will you trust Me?
Following Jesus isn’t just about celebrating what He has done. It’s about remaining willing when He asks us to let go of something good because He is leading us toward something we cannot yet see.
Your Story May Be Someone Else’s Beginning
Every “yes” creates space for another person to encounter Jesus. Every act of obedience becomes part of a story much bigger than one family could have imagined.
When we trust God’s leading—even when it stretches us—He has a way of using our surrendered lives to bless people we’ll never meet.
Go Deeper This Week
Where is God asking you to say “yes” again?
Maybe it’s serving where no one notices.
Maybe it’s trusting Him through a season you didn’t choose.
Maybe it’s letting go of something familiar so He can lead you somewhere new.
Don’t wait until every detail makes sense.
Take the next faithful step.
Because God often reveals the next chapter only after we’ve surrendered the current one.
Your next “yes” may become the beginning of someone else’s story.
